Dodd Camera Leaving Shaker Square |
We have been asked to vacate our current space in order to provide the landlord with the opportunity to bring in a new art gallery. We plan to leave the Square by the end of March 2009. Dodd Camera is not closing. We are alive, well and still very much open for business at our ten other Cleveland area stores, our newest location in Chicago plus five in Dayton operated under the Click Camera name. We are truly saddened to leave Shaker Square. Coral Group has done a commendable job repurposing the Square as a restaurant and gallery hot spot. The days of traditional retail store business began to erode in 1999 when the Square's former owners took over. We stayed, hoping that more specialty shops would return, but it never happened. The opening of Legacy Village six years ago also took a toll on the Square. Yet we stuck around, though just breaking even, because of our belief in and enjoyment of the neighborhood. Dodd's Shaker Square location has always been our smallest and lowest volume store. And yet we saw its value to the community. Dodd has benefitted as well, in part because our coworkers enjoyed the diversity and eclectic nature of the area. Now it is time to leave and let the Square flourish in its new form. We still have stores very close by: East 30th at Carnegie Avenue, Pepper Pike at Lander Circle, and in Mayfield Heights directly across the street from city hall just 1/4 mile from I-271. Dodd Camera has evolved over our 118 years in Cleveland by making difficult decisions at times. The choice to leave Shaker Square is heartbreaking to be sure. But it is not the end of the road, just a new chapter in the history of one of the last family owned camera stores in the country. We look forward to serving the Greater Cleveland area for many more years to come and hope to serve our loyal Shaker Square customers at our other stores and online at www.DoddCamera.com.
